Something I’ve wanted to try for years.

February 28th, 2010 by mcaryphotoart

Ever since I first read about it back in the late 70s or early 80s I’ve want to try shooting some bulb and flash multiple exposure just something about it that sound so cool so over the last couple months I’ve been trying to do just that. The first shoot I messed up on the exposure resulting in all the images being extremely over exposed. Then the next shoot I made the big mistake of not thinking about the position of the model’s body from one pose to the next which resulted in very jumbled shot. With that important fact in mind I decided to have the model only make very minor changes between poses in ein order to keep the final photograph as clean and defined as possible for my most recent attempt.
My next goal is to incorporate more dramatic changes between each pose while at the same time keeping the over all photograph clean.
Camera: Bessa-I
Film: Arista EDU-Ultra-100.

PS of course this would have been so much easier in Photoshop plus the results would have no doubt look much more professional but doing it the old fashion way is just so much more fun :)

5 out of 76 Ain’t bad

After much deep thought, debate and discussion Me, Myself and I have come to the conclusion that we have nothing interesting to say at this time and will therefore just post some of our favorite shots from last Saturday’s shoot with Amber.

Keeping it Simple

January 11th, 2010 by mcaryphotoart

The following are my favorite shots from last week’s initial shoot of what I’m calling Project Keep it Simple. The basic idea behind the project is to do a serious of shoots in which the main source of illumination is a pair of hand held 75 watt work lights. The thing I like best about this project so far is not knowing the results until the film comes back from the lab. Sure I can get some idea by what I see in front of me as I press the shutter but there’s still an element of surprise especially considering the fact that shooting with my vintage 6×9 folder involves a far bit of guessing as far as framing and focusing go. Another area I’m wondering about is what will happen if I increase the exposure? Will using a longer exposure or larger aperture allow the light to spread out farther thereby illuminating more of the scene or will it simple result in over exposing the area’s closest to the lights?

A pictures say’s a 1000 words

November 26th, 2009 by mcaryphotoart

I’m sitting here in front of my computer looking at a selection of photo’s from my shoot with Stephannie Anne at OZ 2009 trying to think of something cleaver and insightful to say. I guess I could write about what an amazing model Stephannie Anne is, but of course everyone here already knows that, or I could talk about what equipment or film I used but does that really make any difference. I mean either a picture speaks for it self of it doesn’t and if it doesn’t anything I might say will just be noise. So here’s hoping these photographs speak for themselves.

Fun with math

September 27th, 2009 by mcaryphotoart

Ok let’s see, a meter is equal too how many feet which means seven meters should be somewhere around 22 feet. So F-8 would give me how many feet of acceptable focus? OK now let’s see ISO-400 F-2 1/125 = IS0 200 F-8 at 1/4 a second, dam never was any good with math.
Actually putting it into practice; Ok looks like a good spot with nice lighting lets shoot here. Set-up Bessa on tripod, take Leica and get distance, next convert to feet plus adjust for the different film speeds, stop down to adjust for error(s) in math.
DAM this sure is slower then shooting digital LOL.

A few photo’s from my “new” toy, a Leica M4-2. Well it was made in the late 1970’s so it is 20 years newer then the Voigtlander I recently purchased so its kind of new. Film used was Kodak BW400CN, I’m currently doing a 10 roll test of BW400CN and XP-1 to see which I prefer, so far I think I like the Kodak better. So for the next year or so my digital gear is going to get a bit of a rest as I enjoy my new toy’s.
