ARTnudes was first conceptualized in New Orleans in 1997 and launched in 1998. One of the first fine art nude photography websites on the internet, ARTnudes first garnered acclaim from ABC News for a prime time news segment on photography websites on the internet. The ABC news team came to ARTnudes and filmed a photo shoot with Carlton Mickle and interviewed Mickle and Zoe Wiseman the creator of ARTnudes. ARTnudes was featured in many magazines and media outlets.
In 2002 ARTnudes suffered a severe attack on the website and it caused many problems so we decided to shut the site down. We turned instead to our online forum, Community Zoe, a critique and discussion board for ARTnudes.com. Many people expressed regret that they were unable to find and hire models through Community Zoe, even though that website is not geared towards this (it is solely for critique of images). So, Figuremodels.org is now a place where photographers and models can find each other and create and maintain blogs if they so choose.
There are a lot of modeling websites out there, but this is the only one geared strictly towards figure photography. That also means that there will be no censoring of images here. This is the only modeling site on the internet that will not put your work behind a pathetic 18+ barricade. We find that mentality immature and a disgrace to this art form. This also means that we won’t be able to have advertising and that we pay a little bit more for hosting than most sites. Integrity has a price. We’re happy to pay it.
ARTnudes.com now accepts submissions from photographers who are self-publishing, creating a buzz about their KickStarter or IndiGoGo campaigns, artists and photographers who need to sell some prints, workshops, and even to show off your new work! Anything you can imagine – send us your idea!
ARTnudes.com comes with quite a bit of traffic. We have been online in one form or another since 1998 and even in our most dormant state we receive over 3 million hits per month. Putting your work here will drastically increase visibility for your project.
For now, it is FREE for independent artists.
If you are a publisher or gallery owner, commercial photography workshop house, we will accept a nominal fee.
