  • I Spy With My Plastic Eye, is a group print exhibition visualized by photographer, Astor Morgan. The exhibit, brought to life by A&I, is a testament to the unique qualities of toy cameras. Each artist approached their imagery with a singular voice, using a variety of film types, techniques, and cameras.

    Because the charity weSpark will benefit from proceeds of this exhibit, special arrangements have been made with the contributing artists to allow their prints so be sold at unprecedented prices. Please visit, http://www.weSpark.org .

  • My next exhibit will be at the Mark Gallery in Stuart, Florida for the month of November. I am also represented by the Mark and will always have something on the wall there. I also have six images at Art in the Treetops in Sanibel, Florida. That show will be continual, until they no longer want me.

  • Wayne Quilliams latest exhibition ‘Virtuous Impressions of Metaphoric Design’ was recently opened by Michael Vietch of the ABC Arts Show at the International Foto Biennale, his ‘Lowanna’ series opened in Tokyo on the 19th of September and at Rushcutters Bay Gallery in Sydney on the 13th of October, he is to be featured at the Murdoch Art for Science Auction in October.
    Quilliam uncover his latest series of internationally acclaimed work that helped win him the National Aboriginal Artist of the Year title in front of more than 400 people. The work has captured the imagination of European and American audiences over the past 4 years and is now touring Australia as Quilliam radically alters the perception of Indigenous art as he emotionalises the bond between modern society and spirits of the earth. By manipulating the human form with abstract images he seemingly impregnates his photographs with an essence of life and spirituality.

    Quilliam analyses and deciphers images of the nude female form and landscapes to engage the viewer. By deconstructing the myth of vulnerability and nudity, Quilliam’s opulent abstraction seduces the subconscious to ponder the hidden. The artist covers, hides and camouflages his works to deconstruct, create and recreate a naked reality. Encapsulated by the spirituality of nature, the artist deliberately covers and exposes photographs to reveal tensions between the act of representation and reality.
    This work attempts to humanise the sensuous spiritual connection to Mother Earth, and because sensuality is an instinct that evolves through touch and sight the artwork becomes a living entity. The textured essence of a wilting leaf can be felt as it envelops itself around the soft warm skin of the body in one image as the hard jagged rocks permeate-penetrate another. Whilst creating these artworks Quilliam contemplated creation, belonging and love, exploring his humanity and what it means to be an Aboriginal man. He finds an unexplainable and compelling need to immerse himself in his passion, to tell a story, to explain his vision, to highlight the beauty of our earth and the role we play. The creation of this work has been a unique journey; each piece has a story, an experience that is as intriguing as the artwork itself.
    Traditional Aboriginal stories and tales have influenced the artist’s work to become increasingly intense, mysterious, and probing. Quilliam explains, “To interpret my work is akin to demystifying the link between myth and reality, the process of covering and uncovering the human element of nature; to find depth, meaning and perhaps even a revelation that we are the vision of a ‘creator’. I am intrigued by the differing perceptions of nudity and the role it plays in modern society”.
    Quilliam is considered one of Australia’s most prominent Aboriginal photographic artists with more than 130 solo and group exhibitions in Australia, Europe, Asia and the USA, 35 in the past 18 months. Quilliam was the official photographer for the ‘Apology’ and developed ‘Sorry-more than a word’ exhibition that was opened by the Prime Minister at Parliament House in Canberra and now travels the country. He toured France, Italy, England, Spain and Germany with 80 artworks celebrating Indigenous culture and travelled to Mexico City with his international show “Lowanna” which was opened by the Australian Ambassador to Mexico, it is now included in the permanent Australian Embassy Collection. He also travelled to Posta Rica as the Australian Art Ambassador and Photographer for the Cumbre Tajin Festival; a traditional Mexican festival of over 500 hundred thousand people.
    He worked in Bolivia with the traditional people to develop images for a global charity campaign and developed the ‘Close the Gap’ campaign and had worked on numerous others. Quilliam co-created a 1920’s New York photographic shoot with Russell Crowe and was the art ambassador for Silverchair/Powderfinger ‘Across the Great Divide Tour’.
    Quilliam has recently returned from Europe with two alternative series of ‘Lowanna’ exhibitions that went on show at Art Centre Berlin, Germany and was extended by 4 months due to the public demand. ‘Lowanna Emergence’ was opened by the European Union Ambassador at the Museum of Young Art in Vienna, Austria as a part of the ‘Global Art’ series, Quilliam was the only Australian artist invited to participate. He developed new work for the Dreaming and Garma Festival’s and the National Museum including being a key note speaker at several forums, he also runs photographic/art workshops in schools. Wayne opens new exhibitions in Cologne, Germany, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra in the next 5 weeks.
