Kat Love – Super Art Model

February 6, 2009 in Models by admin

6’2″ – beautiful skin, amazing poses, womanly and warm, Kat Love is a joy to work with and to know. Her style and grace lends itself beautifully to photographic artists looking for someone who understands that our work isn’t cheeky or superficial, but soul searching and boundless in ideas. Not only is she a celebrated Super Art Model but she has also branched off and has become a thoughtful and technically magnificent photographer in her own right.Â

I asked Miss Love to showcase some work she did with photographer Joel Belmont and to write a few words about their work together. Enjoy.

Some people are just meant to create art together….

When I was a beginning model, I happened upon Joel’s website. I was completely in awe of his work. Joel’s work was a major source of inspiration for me when I was first starting out. About a year later, Joel and I had our first collaboration.

This first image is actually Joel and I on a beach somewhere South of San Francisco.

From halfway through our first shoot until now, I have called Joel my little brother. There was just something about his spirited, adventurous, and inquisitive ways coupled with our immediate ability to connect, artistically and personally, that makes me believe that we are related.

These first images where taken North of San Francisco in a redwood forest. I remember feeling as if I were taking a part in something very different than the usual photo shoot. Joel was reaching deeper than most, aimed at finding meaning in his work as well as in his interactions with me.

In typical areas of Portland on a typical Portland day, an atypical sort of crowd went on an adventure in the name of image making. All assembled together for the sole purpose of creating something that might speak of, to, and for the human experience.

Creating images with Joel as well as with three talented was something very different and very wonderful.

These light painting shots were taken in a very small living room in my also small apartment in North Berkeley. I remember taping sheets over all the windows, running electrical tape around the cracks of the doors, and even covering the heater vents which Joel suspected of potentially leaking light. Then standing, sitting, crouching very still, Joel painted me with light. The open shutter of his 4×5 was the witness and these images are the recordings.
