“Evolution” Exhibition Opens in European Gallery

“Evolution,” a combination of two different fine art pictorials created a decade apart by fine art photographer David Allio, debuted on July 1 in the European gallery Graceful Nudes. Both pictorials were created along the same en plein aire theme with beautiful models au naturale. But, that is where the similarities diverge.

In 2000, a 14-image black-and-white pictorial was created in an outdoor setting using traditional silver-based film with nude figure model Patti Smith in Virginia as the subject. A decade later, in 2010, the same motif was approached in Hawaii with fine art model Pua Chapman using digital imaging technology. The result was also a 14-image black-and-white pictorial.

For the “Evolution” exhibition, seven images were selected from each pictorial and combined for presentation by curator David Roland. Each artwork is reflective of the standards and changes in technology as well as how the artist’s vision has evolved.

“Photography has evolved in the past 10 years in remarkable ways,” began Roland, the force behind the development of this dual exhibition. “The introduction of digital photography and the fact that dark rooms became nothing more than computer software, where tricks don’t have anything to do with nasty chemicals. This has made it easier for some photographers to be more creative – they have an instant preview of their images, and to focus more on making good pictures instead of making sure that good pictures turn out well on paper.

“This gallery represents that transition. The first gallery was shot in 2000 using a film camera, with a wonderful model, Patti Smith – which explains the grain, while the second gallery, shot in 2010 in Hawaii using a digital camera, is a representation of the modern approach to beauty Pua Chapman.

“The two galleries have the same theme and two alluring models. I often complain when photographers use the same idea more than once, but here the results are remarkably different. The beauty of each model stands out perfectly in those wonderful natural settings.”

“Framed” Pictorial Features

MARIETTA GA – “Framed,” a 13-image fine art color studio pictorial by professional photographic artist David Allio, featuring gifted nude figure model Michelle Azadian was placed on display today. This gallery is Allio’s fourth original photo essay or pictorial created in 2010 for public exhibition.

“It is fun to create without restrictions or boundaries,” professional figure model Michelle Azadian proclaimed following the brief photo session. “There is no right or wrong – its just about spontaneity unfolding in the moment!”

The pictorial was conceived as a time lapse photography project where the model was forced to create a new pose every few seconds as the camera automatically captured the results. This entire pictorial came from a photo session that required less than ten minutes of total posing time.

“The concept is simple, but proper execution has proven to be extremely difficult. When viewing the results, it is all too easy to under-estimate the creative posing talents Michelle brough to this fine art project,” Allio said. “With time lapse, the normal pressures of a photo shoot are enhanced by the urgency of time. The camera is going to expose the model every few seconds – ready or not. Michelle was ready for the challenge with seemingly effortless composure. Successfully working at this level is possible for only the supremely talented model.”

In addition to posing as the feature model for the “Framed” pictorial, Michelle suggested titles for the individual artworks. The titles for each artwork were then supported by quotations from artists, politcians, and philosophers.

Garden Island Arts Council
Selected for Donations

PUHI KAUAI HAWAII – The Garden Island Arts Council has been selected to receive direct donations from online galleries of professional photographer David Allio. The direct donations program will continue for at least 18 months as a way to help fund art activities on Kauai.

Garden Island Arts Council (GIAC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization comprised of an all-volunteer board of directors who provide a year-round program of art, cultural activities, and events for the benefit of residents of and visitors to Kauai. “The Garden Island Arts Council has been important in the development of my artwork on Kauai,” Allio said. “All of the proceeds from my original figure artworks in galleries, on the website, and from competition awards have gone into scholarship programs in Europe and on the mainland. This direct donation program to GIAC is just an extension of the concept of using my existing artworks to promote the Arts on Kauai.

“In the currect economic and political climate, funding for the Arts has become an easy target for removal from the classroom curriculum. Thus, the funding of art education, creation, and appreciation becomes the personal responsibility of each citizen.”

Allio Launches Nude Figure Art Photography Blog

UPSTATE SC – Professional photographer, convention speaker, and reknowned workshop instructor David Allio has launched a nude figure art photography blog through an extended online service available through the figuremodel.org web site. The blog, entitled “Timeless”, provides immediate links with Twitter, Feedburner, and other RSS services.

“Although I have had a web presence since the 1990s, until now I have been reluctant to become involved with a blog presence” Allio explained. “However, it is my hope that as I learn blogging this uncensored Internet presence will allow me to further educate viewers and promote the exceptional fine art models that appear in my pictorials and exhibitions, my instructional nude figure art workshops, as well as publically answer some of the questions that come through my e-mail.”
